Virtual Open Meeting of the International Federation of Finance Museums

Promotional Marketing Strategies for Museums – a focus on Finance Museums and women

The Annual Meeting of the IFFM, the International Federation of Finance Museums was held virtually by the Bank of Italy and the Museum of Saving.

The discussion focused on the following main points:

Words matter: Museum names that include terms like economy, finance or saving, especially when linked to a bank, can discourage visitors who are not already interested in these topics. Museums should find ways to make financial and economic subjects more appealing to the public.

Social media: Museums should measure how many followers become visitors, for example through exit surveys. Different platforms should be used for different audiences.

Newsletter: Results vary depending on how newsletters are used. Some museums send regular updates and rely on newsletters and their website as key communication tools. Others find that personalised emails are more effective because they feel more direct and engaging.

Specificity: Activities designed for specific groups, such as teachers, students, families, women, female entrepreneurs, or migrant women, often achieve better results. They can also create partnerships with institutions that may provide funding and promotional support.
