The FINRA Investor Education Foundation and GFLEC co-hosted the release of findings from the 2012 National Financial Capability Study (NFCS). Rick Ketchum, Chairman and CEO of FINRA and Chairman of the FINRA Foundation; Mary Jo White, Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Richard Cordray, Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; and Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Treasury Cyrus Amir-Mokri spoke at the event. Following remarks, an expert panel, including Annamaria Lusardi, discussed the range of findings from the study.

A follow-up to the 2009 survey wave, the 2012 study illustrates how financial attitudes, behaviors, and decision making as well as financial knowledge vary by gender, age, and region and highlights areas for improvement in Americans’ financial capability. The 2012 study is composed of both national- and state-level data, highlighting key financial issues facing today’s consumers and how consumers are adapting in the current economic environment.

The most recent survey was conducted in 2015. The findings from the 2015 National Financial Capability Study were released on July 12, 2016.
